Comparison of Antibiotic treatment and Appendectomy for non-complicated Acute Appendicitis during Covid-19 pandemic

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of antibiotic treatment as primary option for non-complicated acute appendicitis in pandemic situation. Study Design: Prospective interventional study. Setting & Duration Study: CMH Lahore, a 700 bedded tertiary care hospital, 4 months from 15th April 2020 to august 2020. Methodology: A total 110 cases meeting inclusion criteria, aged 13-65 years both genders with suspicion were included study, using probability sampling. They divided two groups on randomization basis. Group therapy and B appendectomy. patients admitted ward 48 hours IV antibiotics, re-evaluated after 24 hours. If condition improves, patient was discharged oral antibiotics next 10 days if does not improve, prolonged deteriorating or patient. .chooses change group, they underwent improved, days. 2 post-operative doses I/V antibiotics. Post-operative 3 given when appendix gangrenous perforated. Results: In population patients, we studied comparison having appendectomy appendicitis. There is no significant difference outcomes basis mean pain score duration hospital stay. Both ways can be adapted accordingly.
